I have been looking for something small that I can bring out to the hills with me.
What are you guys using when you film?
Does it say anywhere what kind of gear tj brings out with him to the slopes? It looks like he upgraded cameras at some point and I'm guessing it is more than I want to spend but it would be nice as his videos always seem to turn out so nice.

i have a sony hdr-sr11 hd camcorder. i put it in a case and bring this small tripod that can become big and stick it into my backpack. works well for me cause i can set up on a jump or rail very quickly and get some nice shots.

I think that is one of the cameras I was watching some reviews on. I guess I'm kind of stuck between picking up something like that or just going with some little 150 buck mini cam thing. I'm sure that would greatly limit any editing I could do but I guess I have no real idea on how to do that anyway haha.

id say hd is well worth it. a little 200 buck cam is gonna have short recording time and battery life. i would suggest using sony vegas to edit becaue there are lots of tutorials on the web.

The video quality difference between the two will be huge too. The only think I can think of that would show the difference is its like watching a hockey game on an Analog signal vs an HD signal

To edit Tj uses a combo between iMovie and Final Cut Pro.

There is an episode from last year (fairly early on I beleive) that he shows what cameras he uses. A lot of the quality has to do with YouTube upping file quality and Vimeo allowing users to have an HD option.

yo dude i made my own stedi-cam this season, shit works really well surprisingly for only spending like 20 bucks for parts. http://steadycam.org/ thats the site where i found this thing out from. i just use a regular digi and my buddy uses an hd digi and we get some sick stuff. that stedi-cam gives you almost professional qualtiy video stabilization, fuck buying shit make it yourself and you will be more proud of it haha. i just take it apart and keep it in my backpack and reassemble it in about 5 mins at the top if we are gonna start shooting again. hope this helps

If you want a small camera that you can bring to the hill then buy a canon hv20 or hv30. They are under 1 grand and will give you quality High Def footage. They can shoot 24p footage which means that you can film 24 frames per second like your shooting on real film instead of the usual 30 frames per second. Check it out it is a sweet camera.
